Querétaro International Airport Renews Its Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation with Enerion’s Support

Having served more than 2.4 million passengers in 2025, Querétaro International Airport continues to strengthen its role in regional connectivity while enhancing its environmental management.

Alongside its growth, the airport has maintained a continuous improvement approach to managing its greenhouse gas emissions.

This year, Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) renewed its Level 3 “Optimisation” accreditation under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme, reaffirming its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and collaborating with stakeholders across the airport community.

Level 3 broadens the scope of carbon management by incorporating third-party emissions and encouraging stakeholders to participate in emission reduction initiatives. In doing so, the programme promotes a collaborative approach to addressing the airport’s carbon footprint beyond activities under the airport operator’s direct control.

As part of its ongoing efforts, AIQ has implemented several energy efficiency and environmental measures, including the installation of LED technology in buildings, waste recycling and compost production, as well as a wastewater treatment system. These initiatives are part of a broader process aimed at optimising resource use and progressively reducing emissions associated with airport operations.

Enerion has supported Querétaro International Airport since 2020, providing consultancy services to facilitate its participation and progression within the programme. Working closely with the airport’s environmental team, this collaboration has included preparation for accreditation processes and the strengthening of carbon management and stakeholder engagement plans.
