San Pedro BioEnergy (SPBE) is the first cogeneration plant in the country using sugarcane bagasse and biomass from plantations dedicated to injecting renewable energy into the interconnected electrical system. The plant has an installed capacity of 30 MW in its first phase.
By co-generating with biomass, the project displaces the use of fossil fuels, but also, thanks to its dedicated wood plantations, it captures CO2.
Enerion registered the SPBE project as the first of its kind in 2020 under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism. Since then a monitoring plan has been established; In this 2023, the process of verification and issuance of the first carbon certificates of the project is managed.
